Working on the CHEW Omnivore Edition Vol.5 cover. I typically do these in separate stages. First step is the central image, this time featuring our Collector villain. Next up, I’ll post the character shots that make up the background image. For now, though, this image will be used for Diamond solicitations, since I’m busy doing interior art for CHEW 51 right now. I generally hate interrupting work on sequential pages for cover work. I’m no good at multi-tasking, though I do it all the time.
Managed to wrap all commissions last night. And without burning the midnight oil too much. Over the last few cons, I’ve started taking larger 11×17 commissions for the first time, and I think it’s more my speed. The larger format gives me more space to play with than the usual 9×12, and I just think it’s a better presentation. Gives the piece more room to breathe. A little pricier, but folks seem happy with it.
Also managed to sneak in dinner with the Layman family and the Skeltons (of Skelton Crew Studio, who does our CHEW merch). Had a great time telling ghost stories and recalling the fateful story of our meeting. I’ll have to tell it sometime.
Great first day at Boston Comic Con. Made some great progress on the commissions. Laid down some gouache and ink on these pieces, and planning to wrap them in the morning. I like knocking out my commissions early in the show, so I can be lazy at the end.
I look forward to being lazy tomorrow night.
